Heart of Europe – Prague

Holiday and busy time. Most of the time I think I am going to have a rest and most of the time the opposite is truth. Do you have it also like that? This time, I spent one day in Czech capital, Prague. As well called as the heart of the Europe.I honestly love Czech history, culture, architecture… I am proud that the nation went through so many things in the past and survived, has kept the language and traditions.

Our Mexican visitors have asked me to show them Prague, but with my eyes and just in one day. So I was really thinking what to show them, not to be dissapointed.

How did we start? In the Art Noveau Air B&B close to the city centre and then continue straight to the Old Town Square to see the Astronomical Clock.

Every hour, hundreds of tourists from all over the world with cameras are ready in front of the Old Town Hall to enjoy a fascinating mechanical performance which in the Middle Ages was considered one of the wonders of the world. The Prague Astronomical Clock, which for 600 years has been one of the greatest treasures of the city, still amazes people with its procession of Apostles, moving statues and visualization of time like no other instrument in the world. When the performance finished, we have continued walking through the Old Town Square and the Gallery of Art Prague caught our eye and its three exhibitions DalΓ – Mucha – Warhol. So our visit became interesting with Salvador DalΓ and Alfons Mucha and not only traditional sightseeing tour. Me, as an art lover, I could not like it more and if you have journey to Prague, visit that place. Below, I will share with you few things from the art gallery πŸ™‚

Afterwards, we continued to the historical part of Prague – the bank of Vltava River with beer (for me it was Pilsner Urquell, the one who gave the name to all pilsner beers in the world), Charles BridgeΒ – 516 meters long, 10 meters wide and build from sandstone. According to the legend, the eggs were added into the mortar to reach good quality! However, me as Building Material Engineer, I am having doubts πŸ™‚ But nowadays, technical universities are trying to determine the real mortar composition, so who knows πŸ™‚ From this old bridge you get nice view to Prague Castle and many other nice places, such as the PetΕ™Γn Tower (Czech small copy of famous Eiffel Tower) or the National Theatre.

The only thing which really disappoints me are prices in Prague. That is not Czech Republic. That is place for turists, sadly with completely different prices than in the other beautiful parts of that country. So here, I will give you few tips where you can eat with Czech or funky mood πŸ™‚

I have briefly summarized a bit different day in Prague. And one day is not enough if you want to see beautiful historical places or bit of art… However enough to get “Czech” mood πŸ™‚

Enjoy your trip!
