When I went first time to Mexico (at it is almost 10 years ago when I was working in Switzerland for Mexican company), everyone told me that I have to try “tacos al pastor”. Apparently, one of the best tacos for Mexicans. I was very young and to be honest, I did not have any clue what I am going to eat or try. I was at the age, that I lived with yogurts, bread and simple cooking and my parents were wondering if I am not starving in Switzerland 😀
Tacos al pastor has been developed mainly in Central Mexico as I have been told and it is based on shawarma grilled meat, related to Lebanese who came to Mexico. I would say, you can compare it somehow with Greek gyros or Turkish kebab, just made form pork. Well, I have tried it there the first time I went and since then… every time we go there, I am happy to try them again and again 🙂
These tacos have become “must” when we are there 🙂 I have never tried to prepare them at home (who knows why) and today, while having rest during lunch time, I have found this nice recipe. So maybe… one day… I will give it a go!
Have a great evening!

Good evening everyone!
Dinner time again. This time… I was thinking about my beloved Switzerland and Swiss rosti. I have never tried it before at home, so I gave it a go today. It could have been better, however… it was success as everything was gone straight away and no leftovers. When I was living there I got a Swiss cookbook from my colleges. You can prepare rosti in couple of ways and I followed recipe mentioned below 🙂
What do you need:
potatoes (I usually go with 2 potatoes per person)
8 slices of bacon
cheese (the best is to have Swiss cheese, but you can pick one which you like)
250 g cream
salt and pepper
eggs (1 per person)
Start with boiling of potatoes with skin. Boil them until soft and cool them. When completely cold, peel potatoes and grate them. In the mean time, finely chop the onion and put it with butter in big pan or pot. When glassy, add cut bacon and fry it until crispy (if you like it that way). Afterwards, add grated potatoes, mix it and make a potato cake in the pan. Grate cheese and mix it with cream and pour it on top of the potato cake. Cover the pan properly and let it cook approximately 30 minutes or until crispy.
Well… and you can serve it! I like it with fried egg and pickles (or pickled onions) 🙂
