Have I told you that I have started with gardening when we moved to house with garden? My big thanks are going to Luda from Plants and Beyond who has brought me so much inspiration and still does!!! Thank you, Luda! ❤
Our garden is not that big and I do not have anything fancy there, but it is nice and green 🙂 And as we have little one I thought it might be fun to plant something! First idea – tomatoes! My little monkey is tomato lover. But in a way, you would not believe it. He gives you everything just to have tomatoes. I guess I am very lucky mum as he loves vegetables in general. Biscuits or something sweet he barely eats and when he does and then sees tomato… ❤ Simply love!!! But to be honest, me and my husband, we are huge tomato lovers too. We are eating weekly 60 tomatoes and I am not counting incredible amount of cherry tomatoes 🙂 Therefore… let’s try to plant some! Hopefully, English weather will be my friend and help me a bit too! However, one of the plants is a bit dying as the weather was quite cold and wet lately… 😦
I have found some interesting facts (http://www.vegetablefacts.net/vegetable-facts/tomato-facts/) about tomatoes as well if you did not know 🙂 However, I am sure, you can find on internet much more…
94.5% of tomato’s weight is water.
Tomato plant originates from the family of Nightshade plants (potatoes, tobacco and chili peppers) from Central America. It was domesticated around 500 BC by Aztecs and used not only as a food, but also as powerful (and dangerous) hallucinogen.
Tomatoes rapidly lose their Vitamin C if sunlight can reach them while they are stored.
Leaves of tomato plant are toxic.
Refrigeration decreases flavor and quality of tomatoes.
Then I have parsley, rosemary and basil… My favourite ones for cooking and seasoning!
I should not forget that I have gotten as well green peas – this really mainly for my little one so he can collect it when ready 🙂 And carrots. Carrots – just trial. As I can see that slugs like them a lot!!!! And that’s very upsetting and to be honest, I do not know what to do with it anymore. We have as well chillies (jalapenos) and they like them too!!!! I am desperately trying to save them. So whoever can help me with any suggestion… it is more than welcome and appreciated. I have a lot to learn when talking about gardening and mainly doing something in garden 🙂
And as last… I should not forget our strawberries which are growing very well and you can already see one ❤ However, our little one does not like it 😀 😀 Sooo my goodwill and trying to please him is not that huge success so they are going to be mainly for me ❤
We have already tried to plant avocado tree as well, however unsuccessfully. It has always died no matter what we are trying. Something always goes wrong.
Welcome in my garden and have a great day! And any suggestions or idea what to plant are more than welcome! 🙂
